Remember to ask where your fish is from! Restaurants and fish markets that highlight locally caught fish as well as fishermen who sell at farmers markets often supplement some of their stock with other seafood.

Know what it is

Find something that isn’t on our list? Many fish go by common names and nicknames that we haven’t identified; some are fairly regional and some aren’t even unique. For example, when you see butterfish, ask if it’s sablefish (black cod) or Pacific pompano.
