Summary

Institute for Fisheries Resources (IFR) is dedicated to the protection and restoration of fish resources and the fishing communities that depend on them. By establishing alliances among fishing men and women, government agencies, and concerned citizens, IFR unites resource stakeholders, protects fish populations, and restores aquatic habitats. IFR is seeking a Salmon Recovery Coordinator to work with the Russian River Coho Recovery Work Group. The primary responsibilities will be as administrative support personnel for the interagency, inter- institution Work Group charged with developing a new coho salmon conservation initiative with the goal of assessing coho salmon viability in the Russian River and adjacent basins serving as potential broodstock sources and release sites. The goal of this project is the development of a new supplementation program whose goal is reestablishing naturally spawning runs of coho salmon. 

 

Tasks

 

A.  Provide all meeting support services including note-taking, recording minutes, maintaining participant contact database and meeting calendar for the Work Group and the various technical sub committees.

B.  Serves as assistant to Working Group Chair and other members who are helping to coordinate technical and funding issues and will serve as Work Group co-chair as required.

C.  Incumbent attends all Work Group Subcommittee meetings and provides facilitation and coordination as needed.

D.  Incumbent leads the Work Group Outreach Subcommittee.  

E.  Provides administrative support for the development of the draft recovery plan being prepared by the State Coho Recovery Work Group and its various consultants.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

 

1. Excellent written and personal communication skills, ability to use tact and discretion as required; ability to interact and work collegially with a disparate cast of Work Group partners and stakeholders including personnel from state and federal resource agencies, non-government organizations and academic institutions.

2. Good computer skills including proficiency in word processing, data base development and maintenance (e.g. Microsoft Excel™ and Microsoft

Project ™) capabilities and use of web browsers.

3. Ability to maintain an accurate and continually evolving email data base of all Work Group participants, subcommittee lists and other lists as required for the development of coho salmon recovery planning.

4.  Good math skills to provide maintenance of budget spreadsheets.

5.   Very good organization skills to maintain all project files including correspondence, proposal development materials and financial records.

6.  A strong sense of project awareness and multi-tasking capability to maintain current awareness of multiple project tasks operating on concurrent ten-year schedules.   

7.  Primary work station is at the Institute for Fisheries Resources but incumbent must be able to occasionally (2 times/ month) work in another office (Petaluma, CA) and travel frequently to Work Group and subcommittee meetings (2-4 times/ month).  Incumbent may be asked to travel (infrequently: 1-2 times/year) to Washington DC to participate and record meetings with agency, UC personnel and California delegation representatives and staff.

8. Incumbent must bring to the position a desire to assist in leading the Work Group effort and a desire to instill change in fisheries management strategies.

9. A background in some aspect of resource management- especially fisheries- is highly desirable but not essential.

10. Completion of applicable Bachelor’s degree required.

 

Compensation

 

Salary range $27,000 to $30,000 depending on experience. Full benefits package.
